    The main functions of the unit “Aras” are as follows:
    – organize, manage and implement antiterrorist and hostage rescue operations inside Lithuania;
    – implement antiterrorist operations outside Lithuania in specific cases;
    – detain dangerous armed criminals under extreme or high danger circumstances;
    – search and neutralize found improvised explosive devices and military explosives, used for terrorist or criminal purposes;
    – carry out negotiations during hostage rescue operations;
    – participate while performing various operative actions, detaining persons, suspected to have performed or planning to commit a crime;
